stiff gear selector in 88 RR

Anyone know why my gear selector in my 88 RR would be stiff? My wife had to use two hands to shift from P to D. It is even stiff for me. What's the first thing I should look at? Thanks.

Thanks Bill, is that a replace fix, or a clean it up and lube it fix.

Just went out to check the ATF level, and shifting was very easy to do. It seems now that it was stiff when the truck was at normal operating temp. Could the selector be stiff when the truck is warm because of too much pressure? The ATF level was high, it was very slightly above the high mark. Any ideas from anyone would be appreciated.

            Hey Matt,
Talked to someone who has had an 88 RRC, and in his experience, it is the shifter cable. A new shifter cable is very expensive, so the solution is to take the old cable off(PITA) and lube it real good with teflon, or graphite lube. He said that when the truck gets hot, the cable housing swells, or the cable expands and causes binding, that's why it's fine when it is cold.

That was the only think I could think of, expansion due to heat...
