View Full Version : Idiot Alternator Question

On a 3 wire alternator set up like this:

Where should the white wire go? Obviously its supposed to be hooked to a switched power source. Does it matter where? Is one spot better than another? thanks

It usually goes to one terminal of the red 'charge' light. The other charge light terminal just connects to the white ignition switch 'on' wiring.

Don't wire it through the ammeter. Wire it direct to the battery. When I had mine wired through the meter, the wiring started to smoke under heavy winching. Besides, a volt meter is more useful and safer, IMO....
