What rims are available for a series truck stateside?
It is a '68 with 1 1/16 in. studs.
I am looking for something besides Wolfe rims.
Thanks

110 steel wheels, or Disco steelies.

Oh, also... sometimes you can find wagon-wheels (I'll see if I can find a pic).

I'm not sure, but Rostyles might fit, too....

You can also get any custom wheel manufacturer to provide them. Allied, trail ready, stockton, walker evans, stazworks etc etc

The wagon wheels have their appeal but where do you find them?
The customs are sweet but $300 each is a bit steep esp. as I am thinking of them after a disc conversion. Anybody have pics of the custom rims on a Series?
The Zu rims in LRI are cool but shipping from the UK is a no go. There are very close to the Mach 5 rims which are steel but the Zu are alloy. Both would need to cross the pond which is what I want to avoid.

you can get many of the custom rims for as little as 50 bucks a rim . . . only the high zoot double beadlock alloys are 300. Even the stazworks double beadlocks are 200 . . .

I must have been looking at the wrong rims, I'll have to recheck. Do you know if any of them have done series rims before?
Thanks

I have pictures of Disco steel rims:

http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/LR.images/GR_DiscoWheel.jpg

Here is a picture of one side by side with a stock 109 rim for comparison.

http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/GRdetailPics/NewWing.jpg

Note the vehicle in front has early European spec Defender outer wing panels, the tyres are 33.3" dia (the ones behind are 32") and there are disc brakes on the vehicle with the 7 inch wide Disco wheels.

Below is an overall picture of the vehicle with the Disco steel wheels on. Mine are semi gloss black. I thought it would go best with the British Racing Green vehicle colour. Of course you can paint them any colour you wish.

Yes, most of them have done rover rims . . .but it not like there is anything special about them . . . . Heres some cheapo AR rims:

Im sure you can get them direct from AR too

The RDS rims are interesting but you need 16's for the RM disc kit.
These are the Mach 5/ Zu look. Not 100% on how they'd look on a series.

I wish......$385 ea for the last ones I had made.....+ shipping (I think the base price for 16" is $295). You'll also have to install longer wheel studs for these as the center is double (1/2") thick.

My personal (2nd)Favorite would be the WOlF or NATO wheel, or what the heck ever they are called. RN has them. They have a tad less back spacing than the Disco Steelies so you get better clearance to the springs and retain or improve turning radius. They are hub centric unlike the AR/GCR wheels ...which I have found to be junk for the most part (out of round, very poor quality paint).

My #1 fave is the 110 rims but they are somewhat expensive at like 235.00 ea I think.

Ike...I have Stazworks wheels on the Swamp**** (RRC).......not sure that they are worth it. They hold the tire on like nothing else, even with NO air at all in them (in fact it is a MAJOR pain in the &^%# to get the tire off at all) but not much fun if you need/like to drive to the trail. Turning those things...or stopping them with a Series rig would be tiring or exciting depending on which pedal you where going for.

edit; too funny that the host programming picks up on the Swamp **** thing......I guess we'll rename for RN....how 'bout "Swamp Sally"?

I guess rover rims from other models are now aftermarket? I mean if we are picking our favorite rover rim the SIIB forward control fire engine rim has to be the bees kness . . . .

Whats wrong with the stazworks rims on the street? I know some folks that run them and seem happy . . .

There is a set of 6 aftermarket series rims with tires listed on e-bay. They look pretty dirty but might fit your budget if tight. Here is the link:

lol, well, even in my first reply, I included Disco steelies and 110 rims, and, Rostyles were factory on Rangies too.... only aftermarket one I began with were the wagonwheels..... and I left the NATO Wolfs out since the thread started w/ "besides Wolfs", lol.....

Need a pic of this your IIB rim, Ike, it's not coming to mind......

only SIIB F.C. fire engine pic I could find and the rim detail not that great:

http://www.retro.co.za/lr/FC/109FCFAQ.html

The Series IIB also had a wider track (100mm / 4"), because of:

Axles that were 3" wider, and
Rims with 0.5" more outset than the SIIA. (Calling it "more offset" is technically incorrect, since more offset moves the wheel centreline closer to the car). SIIB rims have no offset, i.e. the mounting face is on the centreline of the rim. SIIA rims have 0.5" offset, and the standard 109" LR used 1.5" offset rims.

Rims and Tyres
The Forward Control Land-Rovers use 6.5" wide rims (Standard Land-Rovers use 5.5" rims) with 9.00 x 16 tyres. The closest metric equivalent is (TTBOMK) 305/85R16.

Mabor in Mozambique makes "Super HCT" 10 ply tyres in 9.00 x 16. The local (Cape Town) agents are MaxiPrest in La Belle Road, Bellville (021 949 7920). March 2003 price is R1100 each.

You can get 34" x 10.5" x 16 Simex Jungle Trekkers from CA Sport in Pretoria (012 329 4515). March 2003 price is R2200 each.

Michelin makes their XL and XZL tyres in 9.00 x 16. April 2003 price is R4100 each.

The rims used for the Series IIA FC gives a 2" increase in track width over the standard 109 (1" per side, of course). Series IIB rims (LR part number 569203) give an additional 1", i.e. 1.5" per side.

I gave my NAS rims to my son for his Stage One, and put Wolfs on the 110 a few years ago. Finally got aroundto getting a wolf rim for the spare, but hesitate hanging it and a 255x85 off the rear door. Lots of weight.
My recollection of you following me down some street in Portsmouth a few years ago, and only seeing the words Range Rover in my mirror, is that whatever **** means, it's got to be more appropriate than Sally.

....yeah, I guess I missed the thing about aftermarket.

The Stazworks rims are generally (in the few sets I've worked with) not exactly the truest things ever making them somewhat hard to effectively balance. They are also HEAVY and with a 37" tire ...or even a 35" tire, are hard to roll and extend the stopping distance of my RR, which has fairly well upgraded brakes, to a distance that takes you by suprise. Doesn't bother me much but I hesitate to set them up for other people as it seems they expect to be able to drive like they are on 205's.

I love the damn things. I also think that after spending that kind of dough on some wheels many people will love the damn things regardless.

You sure that was me? The **** hasn't had any Range Rover decals for over 10yrs now. I took them off right before my attempt at shaving the door handles.

Maybe my memory has failed me on the decal, but I certainly remember the baddest A$$ Range Rover I ever saw, and my son, who was stationed on the Reliance at Kittery at the time, and was in the 110 with me at the time said it was you.

Bad A$$.....yup...that must have been me then (chuckle).

I did know a bunch of the Reliance guys as they'd be by the shop in some of the biggest badest A$$$ trucks I have ever seen.

I wish they were still around so I could give them one of my "one less prius" stickers. You could probablt get a prius stuck between the axles and the body of one of those things.

It will also depend on what size tires you want to run. I have the series 15"s on my RRC. They work well for narrower tires.

Looking at a 16 inch rim, it is half through a disc job as for tire size nothing huge.
