itsy bitsy part gone a missy

    Hello,
Hoping some of the gurus here might be able to help in finding out where I can source a very tiny, obscure part. I disconnected the accelerator controls on my Series II and this little clip on the ball joint end fell off and I've lost it. Likely, its pierced the bottom of my boot and I've been walking around with it while trying to find it. Hmmm, must make a note to look. Anyhow, I'm interested in purchasing this tiny part if anyone knows a part # or if RN sells it. If you check the Green Bible on p. 16-P and look at part # 33 you can see the little part I'm looking for wrapped around the ball joint end of the control rod. Thank you for your help!

I know the piece you mean, the little arch w/ the triangles on the end that fold both ways....

You can replace a section of the whole assembly for $17: http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-1...el-linkag.aspx

Or you can get just the ball socket head for $29: http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-8...b-linkage.aspx

I don't know of being able to buy *just* the clasp part that holds the socket onto the ball. I don't think I have a spare, but, someone around here might..... hopefully......

But if you buy the whole assembly then you have spares for the rest of us!

Call me cheap but I just bought replacements rfom the local hardware shop. The ACE replacements threaded onto the old rod and secure to the other linkage arms using a nut once you've removed the ood ball. I think McMaster Carr does them as well. Cost all of $5 but I suppose it's not original. Been on there for the last 100K or so though.

Ive seen bailing wire used to hold it all together before. But I'll warn you, 'there is nothing as permanent as a temporary fix'

              Hey Gregor,
Has anyone told you you're cheap lately?

Well my wife did tell me I smell last night. A couple of hours out in the garage inthe Phoenix heat does that for a man.

                And yes frequently.

Thank you, Leslie, for your helpful response. That's precisely the little part I'm looking to find the part # for. I see I'm able to purchase the whole assembly, but that's seems a tad pricey to resolve such a tiny problem. I'll keep looking. Thanks to everyone for their insights, though.

                    wow

hmmm, a 20 or 30 buck expense to properly fix an automobile problem? How much is your time worth? how smart is it sitting on the road shoulder fiddling with a chronic jury rig? sometimes I just don't get it. good luck all the same though.

Thought I'd follow up quickly just to show more clearly the tiny part (wrapped around the ball joint on the accelerator control) that I wanted to obtain the part # for to see if I could purchase a new one. I'm just trying to fix my first Land Rover without overspending. I wrote to the bulletin boad to find out what the part # was so I could order the clip or how others might have fixed the same sort of problem. I'm not looking to be disparaged. Thanks to those, though, who offered helpful comments.
