what's a goose neck exhst manifold for?

i've recently acquired a pile of rover parts. amongst the stuff is a goose neck exhaust manifold. what's the application?
'64 Series IIA 88 Canvas Tilt
'68 Series IIA RHD Ambulance
'76 Spitfire 1500
'07 LR3 (Series Recovery Vehicle)

Original exhaust manifold on Series 2 and I have seen some on very early 2a's.
Be a nice part if your looking to restore the truck to factory spec.

the end that connects to the exhaust pipe does a 180 degree curve upwards. did the exhaust pipe 180 back down?

Yes. I don't think that even make that pipe anymore.
