Hello,
I'm just trying to get an Idea of what the 2.5 petrol/lt77/lt230(1.6) is worth?
Its out of a 1985 90. New weber carb, new distributor(elec) 70,000 miles
I have 2 people interested, but have no idea what its worth.
I was told this is the place to ask!

Tough to say. Obviously it depends on the condition of the components. The 2.5 Petrol is a rare engine--even in the UK it's tough to get a value on the 2.5 Petrol.

You COULD see what they're worth on the UK "breakers" websites (used car parts dealers). This might get you a comparative value. For example, a 4.0 V8 engine there goes "from 1550" UK Pounds and up. Here in the USA, the same engine goes for $______________.

Then apply the same ratio to the gearboxes and 2.5 engine. For expample, the defender LT77 is priced "from 350" UK Pounds on the CWS 4x4 website ( http://www.cws4x4.co.uk/gear-boxes.php ), so it could be worth $______ here.

You also have to guestimate adjustments for the rarity of the component and for the demand for the thing too.

I guess I'd sum it up by saying I have no idea and that it might be difficult to find out. Or you could say that the value of the stuff is whatever somebody is willing to pay you for them.

Its worth what someone is willing to pay. While its a rare engine, it doesnt set any land speed records and is only marginally better than the 2.25. The 5 main bearings is its only real selling point.
