Aloha all from the sunny south pacific!! :thumb-up:
Er, has anyone on 'ere (or who have friends that) have had issues with the 4.0l V8 in the DII?
I am looking at swapping to my DII V8 and selling my '98 Tdi is all. It has had to have a head gasket but that's hardly a major compared with slipped liners on the V8. The question is..how often do the V8 ACTUALLY go bad? :sly:
Thank you all in anticipation...

The engine is quite reliable if it is well maintained. It isnt unusual to get 200k+ miles on them. The DII's Bosch engine management system prevents the usual carbon fouling typical of the GEMS managed system. Also the leaks were pretty much corrected in the DII/P38 RRs.

If you drop an 03 4.6 block in your truck, becareful. Somehow when LR retooled the block for 4.6 the oil pump shaft did not line up correctly with the block and has caused numerous oil pump (and consequently engine) failures. So if you go the 4.6 route, i would look for a rebuilt 2004 model 4.6.
