My 1972 Series III Shorland 2.6 L 6 cylinder needs a new or rebuilt distributor, where can I find one? I checked the shaft play and it is very, very loose-about .010-.012 inch play.It has been eating points like crazy.

Would a petronics tie you over? If available?

I do not know if the Petronics would work with so much shaft play. Anyone know about the Petronics, or what needs to be replaced (bearings) in the distributor?

Thanks for the leads, I am awaiting e-mail replies.

Also-does anyone know if the bearings are machined? I have access to a shop.

I just received my distributor for the 2.6L.New in the box:

It does not look like my original. Lucas, 6 cyl, very well built, different cap, rotor, points, heavier gauge wire, cam wiper...I ran the disrtibutor cap number and rotor part number and came up with Jaguar 75-78 XJ6!.
The drive "gear" up to the cap identicle, even drops in! Should I use it?

I have a jag distributor in my NADA six. It seems that all the different lucas distributors on six cylinders are interchangeable mechanically. Cant say about the advance curve though.

Thanks-I checked the part number of the "new" one-it is :

AEU1124

Some Rover parts houses are listing it as a replacement.
I bought mine from Tennessee Land Rovers, about half price of some I have seen for sale.

I do not know about the Advance-but will find out on installation when it warms up some.

Thanks.- and what is a NADA six?

and what is a NADA six?

There was a different 2.6 6-cyl imported to North America, referred to as a NADA 6-cylinder, being North American Dollar Area.

If you notice, there's a NADA registry at the top of the page, that many of the members here have beside their name.

and to augment what Leslie has written:

"In 1967 a limited production of 811 NADA (North America Dollar Area) 109 Safari Station Wagons were shipped to the U.S. These were the standard 109 5 door Safari Wagons, but they had a modified version of the 2.6 liter, 6 cylinder engine. The engine used a Westlake cylinder head and some other equipment to try and win back customers who complained of the lack of power from the 2.25 liter, 77 bhp, 4 cylinder in the over 3900 pound vehicle. The NADA 109's can be told from other 109 Safari Wagons in many ways. The NADA wagons had dual heated windscreens (like a rear window defroster, but encased in the windshield glass), the uniquely modified 6 cylinder engine, dash parts that were covered in textured plastic, not painted as usual, and they all have serial numbers that start with 343."

Were you able to get this distributor to work with you 2.6l? I have a right hand drive 2.6l imported from Australia and I need a new distributor. The distributor that is in on the vehicle now is a Bosch and I'm not sure if this is the original or not. Two questions: did your replacement work? And, does your distributor run counterclockwise and is the firing order 153624?

The Aussie 6 Cyl. , is it a Holden 6 or the Rover 6 cylinder?
A pic would help.
Thanks,
