For $4700, you can have a new engine.

i spent ~$1200 in parts and $640 in labor. I r/r it myself. new 2.5 cam, new rod bearings, new main bearings, new pistons, new timing chain and gears (3), all new seals and gaskets, rebuilt unleaded 8.5:1 head (no core). had the block shaved a bit, the crank turned and balanced.

shop around for a machinist that's not looking to make a balloon payment on his aspen colrado condo!

I don't think that's bad if someone is going to remove and replace it. Given Scott's price of 2k to rebuild, and assuming a shop rate of 65/hr, that would leave 13 hours to remove and 13 hours to replace the engine to get to 3700. Consider rusted bolts etc, who knows.

I think once one comes out and the bolts are easy to get loose, it can be done in a few hours, but if it's been in there since 61 and the bolts are rusted, studs break, etc. - I don't think it's that bad.

Scan and post the written estimate and we'll have a better idea for you.

You're likely to find more diy'ers here who are less likely to pay a shop for the easy stuff, but dropping the truck off and picking it up fixed must be worth a few hundred dollars. ;-)

I have a 2.25 petrol engine with 68K miles on it that runs located in my 67 rover at a land rover shop.

If interested I could inquire the shop/labor charges to pull out of my truck and install.

If I got $750 for the motor I would be happy.....

Located in the midwest...

Thanks,

While it's out of the car consider replacing the clutch, too. It's worth doing because of the labor cost of removing and re-installing the engine.
