Tub yes and I think the rear axle also. Heat in the tent?! That's just no fun now is it? Well, actually, since a couple years or so ago when it was 25 below zero I did decide to pickup a heater and bring it along just in case. Must be getting old....

I think Kevin-CT and I will be heading out of the Danbury area some time Friday morning. I may have another rover or two joining the group but we'll have to see.

I think we will probably leave a bit earlier in the morning so we can get our room squared away and take our time getting up there. Maybe we could exchange cell phone numbers?

We are getting closer to the Winter Romp! Caravan from CT looks possible. Right now, it looks like I well take my RRC and my friend towing his 109 and Tim from Redding in his Series. When we get closer to the day, we can start picking points along the way to meet more Rovers. So, If you all what to hook up, start chiming in. :thumb-up:

Cheers,
Kevin

Hey Kevin,
Having a hard time committing this weekend to the Romp. In all likelihood, I won't be sure till the day before. Typical. :(

I've heard word from Bertha (just over the NY border from you and I) that he is planning on attending and would like to join in the convoy. Probably meet via I-84. I've suggested he ping this conversation to let everyone know.

The best idea I can come up with for us, the western CT departure crew, is to meet at the Marcus Dairy diner. It's right off I84 and RT7 (http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&q=marcus+Dairy,+danbury,+ct&fb=1&split=1&gl=us&ei=vSCLScvEJIqhtwfynuyeBw&ll=41.384022,-73.473473&spn=0.029688,0.065918&t=h&z=14&iwloc=C) so shouldn't put anyone out as distance is concerned. Heck, the diner is used to doing car/bike shows (http://www.marcusdairy.net/Cycle%20Sunday%20main.htm) so a group of ridiculous rigs showing up in their drive probably won't look too out of place.

Send out a time that you are hoping to do a meet up and we'll see who all can make it. From there, I'm assuming the route will be I84 -> I90 -> I295 -> I95. If there is a better route, then post away. :thumb-up:

Again, I'm not sure if I can do it this year but feel free to email me at smithco1@gmail.com and I'll give you (or anyone else who wants it) my cell.

Cheers,
Tim

Hi all, the RT for us is what Tim stated. RT 84 to RT 90 to 290 to 95... Sorry Clifton Rover. If you want to try to meet up north more if that is possible, (I can pm you my cell # just let me know).

I am heading out around 10AM from Danbury if things go to plan. In addition, my friend with the 109 has to work that weekend so he cannot make it too.

you guys are brave going on all of those major highways in your Series...I was/may/may not be/want to be doing it pulling a trailer.

Does that make me a fatalist? :p

CliftonRover

I drive my series 109 4 hours each way home and to school each weekend, so the highways aren't the problem. Kevie ct send me your cell # and I will send you mine. I am trailering due to a rangie with a welded diff, but the series trucks going with me are slower, we could meet up north on 95.

Clifton,
What about a pickup around your place?

Lets say the Old Lyme Seaport (http://www.merchantcircle.com/business/Old.Lyme.Sea.Food.Market.860-434-5134)?

Are we still meeting up at the commuter lot in East lyme off of exit 74? or are we meeting up at the old lyme seaport? I'm good either way I just dont want to show up at one place and everyone else be waiting at the other.

I like the old lyme commuter lot off exit 74? what time should we say. and who is going to be there so we know who to wait for? Rob if you and Jim are the only series guys you should meet up.

thats not a bad idea. I might just trailer it up for the weekend though, because thats an awful long distance one way that something could go wrong on.

Nevermind. I did the math: It is 279 miles more or less from my place to the waterville holiday inn. 262 of those miles would be interstate. The overall journey with the highway portion travled at series land rover speed (50 mph) would take about 5 1/2 hours vs. normal speed at 60 mph takes 4 1/2 hours minutes (according to mapquest). Im gathering spares up, leaving early (ok 10:00), and driving!

CliftonRover
02-09-2009, 10:40 PM
alright so we wont be meeting you at the parking lot? Did you talk with Jim I think he is going to leave around your time..

kevin-ct

Three more days! :) Therefore, I think that the only person that is leaving from Danbury is myself, unless Tim is still in. Can I get a head count on anyone that is leaving from Marcus Dairy in Danbury?

Thanks,
Kevin

Sorry Kevin,
I'm pretty much 100% out at this point. Head gasket is blowing coolant and oil out at an alarming rate and I pretty much need this weekend for non rover activities.

There is a very slim chance that I might dash up there for a day in a non rover but don't hold me to it.

Have fun everyone!

I pm'd Jim, he isnt sure when he is leaving. Im not sure if my truck is up to it, the front left wheel is wobbling up and down slightly (hub, brake drum, wheel/tire, rest of axle components are stiff as a rock), but not left to right. I made a thread about it on snhlr, we'll see tho.

But about the parking lot, as of now I am not going to be there. If i can, Im leaving around 10:00 and taking my time up there. With any luck you'll catch up with me!
