    Tubed Wheels?

In my quest to save a few bucks I ordered a new set of 16" wheels from someplace other than our host.

When they arrived it turns out they are "tubed type" (never mentioned in the description from where I purchased).

This caught me a bit off guard, are folks running tubes in their 16's? What are the advantages vs. disadvantages?

I guess I probably need to return them and call our hosts to set me straight.

Looking for folks thoughts on this. Thanks for your help with this.

If they seal (and chances are they will) you can run them without tubes. There is nothing wrong with riveted rims (which is what Im assuming you were sent.) The original 16 inch rims that originally came with series rovers were riveted "tube type" rims. Ive put many miles on them, running both with tubes and without. I have had a few of them leak around the rivets, but most seal fine.

      steel wheel

This is what I purchased. I do not believe it is a riveted wheel.

Good info to know, that it may seal.

      Thanks

The rivets hold the inner portion of the rim to the circular part where the tire mounts. If you see rivets holding the center of the rim to the circular part, then (obviously) you have the riveted variety as opposed to the welded variety.

I personally have found the NATO steel wheels to be a much better option (especially when tire shopping) for not much more money, but if it's an original look you're after, the Dunlops are probably the way to go.

BTW, Where in NH are you? I'm in Manchester...

That's not too far--I got my 109 off a guy in Bradford several years ago...

Thats too funny, I have been asked a dozen times if I bought my 1973 88" from "the guy in Bradford". Small world.

I have been running tube type rims with out a tube since 2004, never had any issues.

mount some tires to them and see if they hold air.

Were those from the guy in florida on Ebay? I was thinking of ordering a set from him as well. What makes you believe they need tubes?
