How tight on the nut?

I discovered a missing 3/4 syncro spring. Can it be replaced in situ? I didn't notice anything unusual driving the truck before. Would/should there have been symptoms? What function to the springs serve?

Many Thanks!

100 ft. lbs. on the main shaft nut. Although tricky I believe the synchro detent springs can be replaced without removing it.

Hello there,

Here's a link to our BBS for the same situation.
You need nimble fingers but is defenitly do-able.

Heres what you will be looking at once you get the top cover and shift forks out of the way. It's tricky but doable. Some long angled needle nose pliers and a pick set come in handy. There is a lip that the leading edge of the spring will catch on as you slide it in so lifting up with a pick will assist in getting past this obstacle. Sears has a pick that has a straight point on one end and a 90 degree bend on the other. The bent end is what you will want to use. http://www.roversnorth.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3196&highlight=detent here is alink to a thread discussing some issues I had as well. The pictures are gone but this picture shows what you need. http://i53.photobucket.com/albums/g72/Daurie/Land%20Rover/LandRover025copy.jpg
