Well things must happen for a reason, the T-max winch I was originally looking at was sold out! then I just happened to come accross an 8274 :thumb-up: in great shape for $600, new cable, two remotes, roler fairlead etc. Going to pick it up today.

So where do I find a mounting plate for this winch to fit a series. Anyone make them.

If you can find any old 8274 plate cheap enough.. then get it and modify to fit.

This was for a Ford pick-up I believe. Free!!

Thanks guys

I have seen and do like the Pangolin bumpers.

Daurie, how much sag did you get with the winch and bumper on your RM springs

Here is a plate the previous owner had fabricated. The winch wasn't included in the sale. I've since wire brushed it and repainted it with rustoleum. I'd sell it to you but it wouldn't be worth the shipping expence to Canada. Pangolin4x4 has the nicest ones

I built my own plate to sit on the frame horns, following the contours with tabs below that also bolt to the frame to stop any flex. jim

pangolin4x4 not only sells complete bumpers they also sell the tabs and everything else you need to make your stock bumper hold an 8274. http://pangolin4x4.com/pangolin4x4/products/fabparts/fabparts.html

Barely enough to notice. I probably will not keep the tire on the hood anymore though.

it didn't sag cuz 48 y/o stock springs can't sag cuz they are all sagged out by age 30

That is sort of what I am wondering about, I plan on using my 88 for extended road trips etc. As a daily driver I keep my spare in the back and not on the bonnet however once I load up the tire goes back up front. I Currently have the typical multi leaf packs on all four corners right now. A stiff ride but nothing new for me.

Looking at parabolics for a future replacment I wonder how well the two leafs will hold up to the extra weight of the winch, bumper and spare. I can only assume that the Pangolin bumpers are much heavier than stock.

I just got my 2009 Gear Review issue of Overland Journal last week in the mail and there's a good article on the editor's SIII 88 getting a new chassis and a new bumper from Ike (Pangolin 4x4) fitted for the Warn 8274 - and THEN there's a great winch test where the 8274 performed as expected, it's an awesome winch!!

Great magazine and from what I've read and seen, Ike's bumper would do your new winch proud:thumb-up:

Good Luck!

Warn makes a mount specifically for foot forward winches and I bought it hoping it would work. The mounting holes are slotted and fit the width of the bumper bolts perfectly. Added holes across the front mounting and was good to go. One thing I like about this arrangement I was able to keep my apron panel in place. Keeps the dirt from coming up behind the winch.

Someday this will be replaced by an Ike bumper though.

My 8274 was a total junk pile when I got it at MAR. Bought the upper and lower service kits for something like $60 total and rebuilt it in two evenings. They are simple and easy to rebuild. Had to buy a new motor on ebay too.

Once it was all said and done I spent about $500 getting it up to working condition. It now has 3/8" synthetic line too.

I see them on ebay for that much or less all the time.
