Yet another 'discovery' on my IIA... The diaphram from the DIAPHRAM - PCV VALVE 2.25L PETROL (http://www.roversnorth.com/store/p-4617-diaphram-pcv-valve-225l-petrol.aspx) is missing and there are three holes drilled into the retaining cover. Allowing the 'returning' crankcase vapors to simply vent to the air.

The question is, does this crankcase vapor fed into the intake manifold actually provide some sort of performance or is it purely a means of preserving the air we breathe by just a tiny little bit by additionally burning the oil vapors?

It does not provide any performance benefit in the sense of mileage and/or speed, but it does keep your engine compartment cleaner [less oil film] and burns crankcase vapors through the carb.

I replaced mine quickly and simply with the replacement diaprhagm; it works well.
