transmission, primary pinion and syncro

Rebuilt my Series lla transmission and now that its all together with correct torques I find that the primary pinion shaft has some play in it side to side while holding the end that protrudes into the bell housing and the syncro cluster can slide forward and back on the mainshaft about 1/8". I'd appreciate insights re if this is this normal or should everything be tight. Both of these were quite tight until I torqued the main shaft nut and that loosened everything up.
