View Full Version : Driver Seat Modifications?

I'm in the process of buying a beautiful 1-owner Bonatti Grey 2004 Disco SE with only ~29k on the odometer. :thumb-up:

Here's the bummer: I'm 6'-5" and my eyes sit level with the joint between the windshield and headliner at the lowest seat setting, so every time I'm at a red light I've got to keep leaning over to watch for the green. :(

Anyone ever hear of modifying the driver seat framing or completely removing the power to the seat in order to lower the seat height??? (Think Bubba Smith in Police Academy).

(Cutting my legs off below the knee won't work, I've already thought of that).

Here you go step by step instructions.

Or you can get one of these.
http://www.lightinsight.com/

Works great in my Series and I have been thinking of getting one for my DII?

I am pretty sure the instructions on Disco Web are only for a D1.

Could be but it looks like the same mod I read about on a DII.

Here's another for a DII

I'll keep looking for the one I'm thinking of.

Thanks for the info on gaining the extra length, but what I'm really looking for is how to drop a few more inches down.

The lightinsight product may be nice at the traffic lights, but my biggest miff is staring at the junction between the windshield at the headliner (more headliner than windshield). I may be able to gain a few inches back with your mod suggestions, but I'd still be staring at the headliner.:( If I add the lightinsight, I'd just be staring through that all of the time.

I've got a 36" inseam and 6'-5" height overall. I found it interesting to read that one thread on Discoweb where the guy was 6'-7" and said he had enough room. I'm thinking there must be something out of proportion there...there's enough headroom for sure, but I can't stand staring at the hood of the car in order to look straight ahead.

I haven't seen any write ups to lower the seat.

I assume you have adjusted the seat to it's lowest position already with the controls?
I'm 6'1'' and it fits me fine except for being able to see stop lights.
But I came over to the DII from a Series so the DII is just down right decadent!:D

In seated position my eye level measures at 33-1/2" (from seat). Yes, had the seat to its lowest position.

I don't have this visual issue in my LR2 - guessing because the seat does not have the up/down feature.

Perhaps I didn't have the seat tilted all the way down, but I'm 99% sure that I did.
