Perhaps a dumb question...
The large supporting blocks (2 pcs) that the rear main seal engages into LR PN 523240 (parts catalog pg 1C03)and then bolts to the back of the 2.25L engine has a rubber type coating on it... Does that need to be replaced or just resealed if I'm replaceing a rear main crank seal?

My old '98 RN catalog shows a kit 542494.. Is that still avail?

Thanks for any info... TJR

Hello there,

Providing that the surfaces and seal parts are in great shape, the replacement of the rear main seal (542492) is generally suffiecient. Do not forget to replace the "T" shaped cork seals also.

NB The large alloy seal retainers, 542494, are No Longer Available.
