    New Noise

    Hello all again!

1971 IIA with roverdrive has developed a new noise

On over run, (or when decelerating) there is a high pitched metallic squeak... just started a couple days ago.

    1. certainly speed related (faster you go, faster the squeak)
    2. stops if you put the clutch in.
    3. does not happen in neutral
    4. makes same noise in hi or low range
    5. makes same noise with Roverdrive engaged or not.
    6. does not make noise when under power.

    Things I have done:

Changed xfer and roverdrive oil (both levels fine, nothing but microparticles in oil (very, very, very, very small)

Added a bit of oil to gear box

    Lubed u joints, prop shaft...

Engaged (barley) hand brake to see if this happens when engaged (it does)

From my listening, I can not tell if this is from the bell housing (thowout bearing failing?) or to the rear of the transmission.

I have checked the motor and tranny mounts, and they seem ok.

Truck has parabolics (installed 5 years ago fyi)

    ANy help mucho appreciated!

    Thanks!

Whew!--Sounds like you dodged a bullet on that one. An easily-accessible part that costs under $10. Savor the moment.
