Hi,
My local Land Rover dealer has a 2002 Discovery Series II SD with 90,000 miles. The land rover dealer has just done a new headgasket job on it and said it runs good. I am thinking about buying it, i just wanted any thoughts?
Price asking is $7200.00

Does this seem like a good deal?

Thanks!

Sounds about what a LR dealer might want for that year and milage, although most LR dealers won't even keep trucks on the lot that are out of warranty. Personally, I don't think it's not an exceptionally good deal, since they are going through the auctions in the low to mid 3s. 02s won't have center diff lock or provision to install it either. They are notorious for the HD,TC and ABS lights to be showing, so make sure the dealer has assured you all is well in that department.

For comparison purposes....(Note that list prices are not always = sale prices.)

private seller - "Safari Edition" $10K - http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/cto/1187315705.html

dealer - 2003 w/ 49K miles - $9,900 - http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ctd/1179931153.html

dealer - 2003 w/ 110K miles - $6,500 - http://washingtondc.craigslist.org/nva/ctd/1191815081.html

So I would say you are in the ball park.

dealer pricing that is pretty cheap, even for the miles. i would make sure the front cover isn't leaking and the transfercase isnt leaking. I live in chicago and seems like all land rovers are really high priced out here unless they are really beat up and on their last breath.

New here, $7200.00 is to high for that vehicle for this economy right now. I bought a 00 D2 SD with 70,000K for $6000.00 in JUly 08 when I got home from Iraq. I would offer the private seller with the yellow D2 $8000.00 and see if he jumps.

Good luck

it is hard to move these trucks now. i had a 2000 w/ 54k on it that i just had to finally give away for $4500.0. that sucked. the truck had all new head gaskets front cover gaskets..... every gasket and seal had been replaced. truck ran so great. the interior was flawless and the body was very close to being perfect. crap economy. I just picked up another 2003 DII with 68k, looks even better than the 2000 i just sold, hopefully that one will sell for a decent price when i get it running.
