I purchased a Genuine steering damper (STC 786) for my SIII Lightweight. The only promlem is what to do with some of the mounting hardware. The hardware for each end includes one thick washer and one thin washer. There appears to be only one place to put each of these washers, but I'm not sure why they are needed.

Here is the hardware for one end of the damper:

Here is ALL the hardware assembled:

Here is the way I would expect it to mount:

Unless there is a good reason for the flat washers, I'm going to mount it as shown in the last picture.

Any input?

Your second option is how I did it on my 101 and how it shown in its parts book. I haven't had any issues in the few years since I did it.

I'm curious to know what the frame end of the mount looks like. The steering damper I took off had one end fixed to the drag link and the other to a clamp on the spring pack. I dont think it will work with my new springs.

The genuine bracket is NLA. Where does the aftermarket bracket mount?

Thanks --Dave

I think that the frame bracket may still be available from someplace like PA Blanchard or LRSeries.com. My bracket looks a little unusual, but I have no reason to believe that it isn't original:
