Having just rebuilt my Lucas 25D distributor, I thought a Nylock nut would make sense on the points stud (you know, where the condenser and other wires connect)...or at least a few of the correct size nuts in the spare parts bag.

I'll bet it's a real common size that one could obtain anywhere, because it's so important and you could easily lose it out in the woods if you had to change points. Looks like a 6-32...

Nope. Hmmm. Metric? Nope. OK, let's get out the caliper and thread gauge.

Major diameter 0.138 inches. 38 threads per inch.

I can't believe it! A 6-38?? Who ever heard of a 6-38. I don't think that exists in the known universe...except from Lucas.

I've always got a good chuckle out of the BSF stuff and Lucas jokes, but this is BAD. Somebody set me straight. Where am I going wrong on this?

6-40 is fairly common, never heard of 6-38. You sure it's not a 6-40?

I thought that it might be a 6-40, but measured it multiple times.

My thread gauge could be wrong...I have a cheap India one, maybe it's time to invest in a Starrett. Don't have any 6-40 nuts laying around.

Ace Hardware....

Ok, so it's two words. I have purchase 40tpi from them before. Great fastener selection, although your local selection may vary.
