96 Disco runs at 1500 RPM in idle

Ever since I disconnected the multiplug from the mass air flow sensor and disconnected sensor from the Plenum hose and air filter box, my 1996 Disco runs at 1500 RPM in idle and when I shift to drive or reverse, the car runs at 1000 RPM. If I remove the multiplug from the mass air flow sensor it runs at normal RPM. I've left the mass air flow multiplug disconnected, so that I can drive the car, but I really can't keep it that way forever. is there a way to test the mass air flow sensor? There are no codes or MIL.

Sounds like it is time to clean or replace the MAF sensor... you can buy MAF cleaner at most auto parts stores.
