I have a Series IIa 88 - registered 1967, Suffix C (suspect really a 1966). The truck has the 3 spoke plastic only wheel. Does anybody know if this is correct and when Landies switched from metal spokes to 3 spoke plastic? I restored a metal spoke wheel, but now not sure if it will fit :-(

Thanks!

Very early 67's came with a Banjo wheel. I dont believe the wheels are interchangeable with the later 3 spoke all plastic/bakelite type as I believe the splines are different on the later steering boxes, making the two wheels not interchangeable.

Sounds right to me. If you're looking authenticity, sell the banjo wire spoke wheel on Ebay and use the money for something else..

Thanks guys - sounds like if I have the all plastic wheel on it, it is probably authentic :-( . Perhaps my truck, since positive earth etc. was in right at the cutover to the new wheel models. I'll take the advice and sell the much nicer wire wheel on ebay and get myself a few parts I need. Oh well...

My 1966 109 has the three spoke wheel. I bought it in 1971 from the original owner so it must be correct for 1966. Of course Land-Rover would use all the parts in the bin when building these vehicles so nothing is "correct" around the model change times.

The banjo and later style 3-spoke steering wheels are not interchangable.

well now that's interesting. My truck has the banjo, a '71 VIN, inboard headlights, late IIA taillights, and the single motor wiper.

Yeah it must be - someone must have gotten the bulkhead with VIN and built the rest around it :)
