Please help, this is my girlfriends rover.. she's very cool and is all into Rovers and what not, but she can't use her horn to WARN people of her presence.

OK, before someone starts with the "go to kmart" there is a horn in the kids bike section...

I searched in the RN messageboard (before posting) as well as the other Rover messageboards and there is no definitive answer to the following issue, which I have seen posted before...

Fuse is blowing when the horn button is depressed.

Now, I did the ancillary checks:

replaced fuse three times, replaced relay twice, checked connections. fuse blew, again.

then i cut a piece of wire, disconnected each horn one at a time, connected wires to horn directly to the battery and yes they work.

now, to get to the wires (one purplegreen/one black) coming from the relay behind the fuse relay box will let me confirm if it is a short between the relay and the horn or there is an issue from the relay to the steering wheel.

For approach #1. what is the easiest way to get at this?

Approach one.

there are two issues with this.

1. the battery getting disconnected, how will this affect the vehicle. I am used to older rovers and will this affect the security system, like the radio (which I have the code for)

2. pulling up the harness... umm.. yeah.

If I am able to get at the back of the fusebox /relay, and get a
line tester in there, then I will confirm it is the wire between the relay/horns. I will then just run new wire to each horn and call it a day.

Approach two

NOW, if it is the horn button itself on the steering wheel?

Any thoughts?

first pull wires off of horn and see if it still blows the fuse if not replace horn, if it does then work backwards.....

Sounds like the horn switch in the steering wheel is bad.

Unfortunately, it looks like they are only offered by Land Rover as a pair:

thank you for the part selection IF that is the issue. i am trying to find who has had this issue and the path to troubleshooting my two options, any thoughts?
