Anybody been through this?
It had been running and shifting fine, jumped in it this morning and it would not shift into higher gears. Forward, neutral and reverse are all I get.
Moving shifter into 2nd and third manually did not make a difference.
No slipping seemed evident.
Tranny fluid clean and not low.
Sensors? Something stuck?
Appreciate advice on this
Tried it again this morning, shifted between hi and low ranges, no improvement.
Truck is on an offshore Maine island so it's no simple matter to get it to someone.
Appreciate some help with this

From what I read of your problem, I remembered reading about that somewhere and how it was a "tricky" fix, so I found where it was.
Here is what it says (copied and pasted) I will also try and link the page.
It may or may Not be the problem, just seems to fit.

"Transfer Case Stuck in High
On 93 and up Classics, the transfer case shifter can jam in Hi (or Lo). The problem is usually an interlock solenoid added in '93 to prevent the transfer case being moved out of either Hi or Lo range unless the main gearbox is in neutral and the ignition is switched on. Mike Lenaghan (lenaghan_mike@emc.com) experienced this jam on his 94 RR. He found no reference to the interlock solenoid in the shop manual, though a circuit diagram appeared in the owner's handbook. The two relays in this circuit are under the cubby box tray in the centre console. Mike found the +12V switched feed was not even reaching the first relay; however, even when he suppled +12V directly to the solenoid feed it still failed to work. Removing the solenoid, he found the plunger was stuck and had to be removed so the transfer lever would operate. He replaced the solenoid, minus plunger (to keep dirt out of the mechanical linkage). Full details of these procedures, including fault diagnosis, component location, disassembly and repair can be found in the Transfer Case Stuck in High (http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/index.html#transferstuck) section on the Repair Operation Details (http://www.rangerovers.net/repairdetails/index.html) page. Hope that adds some insight to your issue, however confusing and complicated it all sounds to me!!

His post sounds like the transmission, not transfer case, is what is stuck and not shifting past 1st gear.

Check your TV cable (goes from throttle linkage down to the transmission valve body, along the DS of the engine by the manifold) If that is broken, you don't get enough line pressure for the transmission to shift and replacing it is possible but you have to drop the pan and valve body to do it.

Just realized this is a zombie thread from the end of July - hopefully it's been addressed already???
