The GM alternaotr swap seems to be pretty popular, espically for the older generator style LR's. How about the later Ser III alternators..?? Mine always seemed to work fine, but now is the time for me to consider the GM swap.

Is 50% part of the benefit of the upgrade the cheap and common part?

In your case, I'd say 100% of the benefit is the inexpensive and common part. Just head down to pep boys/oreillys/napa/autozone/whatever.

Even cheaper if you can get one from the scrap bin and rebuild it with a kit from an auto supply store. :thumb-up:

In addition to being common (and therefore, inexpensive), the GM unit provides copious amounts of electricity (as compared to the generator that came stock with the vehicle)...
