My '82 Series III 88" has a Daihatsu 2.8L NA diesel (out of a 1st gen Fourtrak (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Daihatsu_Fourtrak), I'd assume) in it which was running fine, but I've had a hell of a time trying to to track down appropriate oil filters for it. KevinNY (http://roversnorth.com/forums/member.php?u=28) had mentioned in reply to one of my other threads (http://www.roversnorth.com/forums/showpost.php?p=35785&postcount=10) that he's running a remote filter with his similar engine setup (turbo instead of NA).
I've never really looked at remote oil filter/cooler setups before, so I dropped him a PM (which he was cool with me republishing for all to read) and he replied as follows:
Generic remote filter mounts are pretty easy to find through somewhere like Summit Racing. Then just go to NAPA to have them make up the lines. You can either use the existing filter mount with an adaptor to connect the lines or make up an aluminum block and drill it and tap it for the return and supplu lines and the 3 mounting bolts. I can send you a photo of this later if need be.
Photos would be great if possible as I'm a very visual thinker. Thanks for the overview!
Any complaint if I take your answer public on the forums to not only get more responses, but also to hopefully help someone else? I've never really thought about doing this before so I'm in uncharted territory for now.
No problem. Here is a photo of the setup. I am using a sandwhich plate oil cooler, the other 2 lines are coolant.

A sandwich adapter seems right up my alley (and Summit Racing, as he mentions, has many (http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=oil%20sandwich%20adapter)), but I'm still trying to work out the measurements. I'm going to put in a request to one of the Daihatsu Fourtrak/Rocky forums to see if anyone knows the measurements, but I guess I can pull the filter off off and buy calipers to try to measure it myself, but I've never done that before. Any suggestions there?
Then what else do I need other than having someone make up the hoses? A remote oil filter mount (http://www.summitracing.com/search/?keyword=remote+oil+filter) and what else? I'd assume that I don't have to have a cooling setup (I'd rather not), but if not do I then have to have another adapter mounted to the remote filter adapter (it looks he's using a Hayden (http://www.summitracing.com/parts/HDA-2106/) plus the sandwich oil cooler)?
Thanks in advance and apologies if my thinking is a little muddled. Woke up at 3am with these questions bouncing around my head, re-did some of my research, and now it's after 4am!
