I was thinking of trying to get over there, but alas, I have a plastic dash and fear being shunned (that and I have to work a good portion of that weekend). :(

I am travelling down in the Discovery ('er indaws requires more comfort than the D90 or the Air Portable), so I hope I am welcome and do not end up on the bonfire Saturday night!

All dash types are welcome, even 1995 Classic LWB's !!

yesterday I adjusted the tappets, charged the batt last night, mapped out the route this morning, and packin the truck later tonight, so it'll be ready for a 6 a.m. departure saturday. My dad is coming up with me this year (seeing how it is his rover after all) and we'll be staying over saturday night. Bringing some parts along for the swap too.

Wish I could make it this year, can't believe I have missed all 6 of these. I'll be happy to get the Tdi fired up this weekend. Taking tomorrow off and going to the local Parker store to get that last PAS hose made up. Everyone think positive thoughts for me!

cheers

I sure had a good time at Metal Dash Weekend on Saturday. Is was great to have such good weather, though I guess the guys who stayed over for Sunday were not quite so lucky.

With Don Flye's approval, I've put together a little official web site so that in future years information will be easier to find. I've also posted my photo galleries for the three years I've attended including of course this year:

Jodi and I had a great time, I guess the axle must have been previously strained because it snapped so easily. thanks to Don and anyone who helped out. It was good to catch up with everyone.

Thanks to Don and all who hosted this event. My son and I had a great time. I am sure though that there are no mosquitoes left between Petersham and Salem MA. we made it back just fine. Thanks again for the tech session Les. Looking forward to next year!

I was hoping to go, but since I just got my rover 3 weeks ago, I haven't gotten it fully in order for a long trip from central Maine. went through the fluids this weekend, and found almost no oil in the swivels, and both diffs down almost a quart! Glad I didn't go.

For next year, perhaps Jim and some of the others from Maine would be interested in caravaning down. I get tons of looks driving my IIA, but 3 or more in line at the gas pumps would sure cause some commotion!

Its great to know that the event was well recieved.
I feel such silly fellow in leaving my camera on the computor desk at home, downloaded all my previous pix to a file and ommited to add it to the luggage !!! Silly billy!

Many thanks to Don and Mike Flye for their hospitality and hard work to make this event enjoyable to all.
Saturday night's feast at the church hall was interesting !

Please follow Nels link to the new web site !!

Speaking of photos, does anyone have any from the earlier years of the event? I think it's been held since 2004. I've got photo galleries for 2006 through 2009 but if anyone knows a source for 2004 and 2005 let me know.

Also are there any other videos or articles online out there? Let me know about those too. Thanks!

Looks like a everyone had a great time.. Great pics.. I wish I could have been there, but the SIII is still not on the road, plus not a metal dash.

Can someone explain the green broken axle in one of the pics?

Les,
There always seems to be questions on brake work especially making Proline shoes fit. A lesson on how to chamfer them would help me a lot.
Jim

Les Parker
10-27-2009, 04:09 PM
Hmm,

Need some help with that !
Maybe we can do the Airportable brakes, if its still in the stable at that time.
Also, at AMD 2008, I promised a copy of the Lucas Diagnostics to some one, I have a CD at hand and I have mislaid the details of the promisee!
Any ideas whom that could be?

:(

I got some ideas....

-Flaring and bending brake lines (by this time next year... or in just a couple months, i will be very good at ;))

-Tips and tricks to cleaning, maintaining, and waterproofing a canvas top (seeing how most of the trucks up there had soft tops)

-Proper use, techniques, storage, and maintence of the high-lift style jacks

-Field repairs: whats likely to break on the trail or on the road and what supplies and toolds to carry to fix it.

That's all i've got so far. I'll keep you posted

-Rob
