    Servos - IIA, III

Anyone know if the servo brake units and associated plumbing & reservoirs are different by engine model or series type?

In my case, my late IIA 88 2.25 was fitted with a servo and integrated reservoir that look identical to a 6 cylinder model (the 6 cylinders have a 'type 38' servo, whatever that is).

I know series III's are fitted with the servos too. That got me thinking about differences between such parts, based on actual truck model. Is the servo identical across the series, enabling anyone to upgrade to power assisted brakes?

It would make sense that a part is a part, is a part...but then again, this is Land Rover, so who knows .

    Brake Servos

I believe vacuum brake servos have been fitted to Land Rovers since the 1960's. The earlier 109's had remote Claton-Delandre servos, very similar to the Jags and and big Austin-Healeys of that time. The later IIa and III L-R's had a servo attached to the petal tower and were either with one or two circuit master cylinders depending on the market.

Here's what my manual research yielded:

      LR --------------- 88 ---------109 ------ 109
      Kit -------------- LE72696 ---LE10118 - LE10117
      Servo ---------- LR17818 ---LR15248 - LR15248
      Boost Ratio --- 1.90:1 -----2.00:1 --- 2.00:1

If you could use a little Extra boost, Heystee Automotive in The Netherlands offers larger 8 inch Santana power brake boosters.

Great! Thanks for the info both of you, (and the kit specs TerriAnn).
