Wipers that won't stop

I have a series 3 X-MOD that I replaced the wiper switch (on-off knob) and now the wipers do not turn off when the engine is running. If I turn off the engine and wait a few seconds, then turn the key to the first position they go back to their resting position.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.
