View Full Version : Thinking about getting NEW tires.....

The tires on my 1958 S2 are very old. While they are not worn out, they are cracked from age. Im not sure what they are, but Id like to get something like the General Super All Grip, hopefully in crossply. Most of my driving is local, with a good deal of trail, which is sand and mud usually.

The tires on there, are mounted on the original date coded 1958 steel wheels, and are 7.00 X 16, tube type. I dont think 7.00 X 16 tires are made any longer, and Im not sure if I can even find SAG 7.50X16 crossplys. I know they make a radial version of that tire...but will my present rims be too narrow for this? Are General crossplys still available?

Usually the recommended minimum rim width for 7.50x16 tires is 5.5". Your older wheels are probably 5.0" wide. With that said, I ran 7.50 radial tires on the narrow 16" wheels with no problems at all.

I would go with the SAG radials, but I'm not sure the US General dealers have them available.

Here's a good source for 7.50x16 tires.
