Hey folks!
We all know what happens when I think about doing anything ancillary to my truck. I've given up on the idea of new trim, or off road lights, etc... if the truck even gets wind of that it will throw a fit.

I'm hoping this might be an exception - a PO had installed a hand throttle and I'd like to get it working again. The cable is still through the firewall just hanging out under the hood. Is it as simple as attaching it to the throttle linkage on the carb? (I'm guessing not)

Any one else have one installed?

No, there are several parts involved. My parts book only covers the 2 litre...but perhaps someone with the part book for your model can scan and post the page. They are very nice to have, I use mine a lot for trail driving, it takes the "bounce" out of you foot.

thats exactly what I was thinking - thanks for confirming.
Now... to get it hooked up...

Heres a scan from my series 2 book...probably different from what you need, since the carb is on the other side of the motor, but it gives you an idea.

It sounds like the PO installed something other than the factory one. The short answer is yes it can probably be used. Post up some pics so we can see what was done.

I have the factory one but discovered my truck is missing the cross piece under the hood to attach the hand throttle. It does look good on my bulkhead though.

Nick,
If you have a cable instead of a series of throttle linkages you will need to figure out how to adapt a Defender hand throttle cable to where you pedal cable attaches to your carb. I'm in the same boat trying to figure out how to use my quadrant hand throttle with my 2.5 diesel. I found this Land Rover Defender 2.5 D throttle control bkt ETC6630
which I don't think will be what you want or can use but look for something along this line. Now all I have to figure out is how to attach a cable to the hand throttle. If I manage to figure it out I'll post pictures. I'd call our hosts and see if they can assist you in your quest. Best of luck,
Jim

took a closer look today. I was wrong about the cable.
What I have is a lever that comes through the firewall and attaches to an arm with a nut on the end.

Nick,
I'm confused. Do you have a cable that operates your carb or is it a solid linkage? If it is a solid linkage I misspoke on my last post. Sorry. Could you post a picture of the assembly inside the vehicle and clear up for me cable linkage question?
Thanks,
Jim

Seeing the backside of the linkage you indeed have the factory hand throttle but I am still confused, is it not attached at the carb?

Its not attached to anything.
I'll get pictures of the throttle linkage at the carb tonight
