I am trying to dial in the timing on my '69 IIa. The manual I have indicates there are 3 timing marks on the front cover of the engine. Mine only has two. Can anyone tell me what the 2 pointers represent? 6° and 3° BTDC or 3° and TDC or 6° and TDC?

Thanks and Happy Turkey Day

3 and 6 BTDC. Closest to the left would be 6 and closer to center of engine 3. I would think the TDC mark was dropped because lower octane gasolines weren't being made anymore by 1969, but that's just a theory. 6 BTDC should work the best with the lowest octane gas you can find.

Happy Turkey Day!

Thanks Walker. I have it timed around 10° BTDC because it runs better there then at 6.

BTW, I grew up in Ambler and bought my first Triumph Spitfire in Bethlehem.

Tim,
I had to look up Ambler I wasn't sure where it was though sounded familiar, that's not to far, just north of Philly. :D

A few things have changed recently in Bethlehem. For one the Steel is shut down and being divided up. Sands has made the old rail stop for steel shipments into a casino, LOL. They used the old crane as a sign post for the casino.

Kinda interesting too, the movie Transformers II used the blast furnaces as a back drop for a scene with Apache helicopters flying around. I think the setting was suppose to be an industrial town in China. I haven't seen the movie so not really sure where in the movie the scene is, I think I heard it was near the beginning.

I once looked to attend college in Maine a place called Bates, I think it was. Beautiful geography up there.

Cheers!
