Sure, its great fun reading about you being picky and wanting the perfect bolt/strap/doohicky so that your spotless garage queen can be 100% period perfect..... but I want photos of your Rover stuck in mud, high centered on rocks, broken on the trail, on fire, rolled, or just generally having fun. And I want the story to go with it too.

I wouldn't be one to make such a demand without posting my own photo/story, but my 109 is dead in the barn with half an engine... as soon as I get it running again I'll go sink it and take pictures. Promise;)

Now post those pics!

Hard to take a picture of your rig while you are driving. You have to reply upon others who 1. take pictures they like which may or may not include the best ones of your rig and 2. may or may not share them with you or give you a copy. The most common ones are those taken when you are stopped and outside the truck or at camp sites.

Here's a small sampling for your amusement:

The three side by side is fantastic, TeriAnn.
Gudjeon- thats great with the Rover Creek sign- laughed when I saw that.
Bluebuy- I like the shot by Sebois Lake- I also like how you painted your Safari Roof with the blue going under the white as opposed to entirely white. Looks great.

The posing pictures are at the top of the "helicopter pad" after the "guard rail". The "shriners" picture is coming down the "school bus". I've had the truck on every trail up there through the years and always had a good time :) This day was pretty frustrating and fun at the same time. I think we lost 6 tires off the bead, a couple of valve stems and the near simultaneous roll coming off the rock you can't see under the zebra truck.

The old girl "Pansy" has a McNamara locker in the rear with GBR (McNamara) half shafts. Up front there's a Truetrac with stock 10 spline half shafts. I've broken 2 rears (short side) and one front (short side) and a front pinion in this setup.

I really miss the good old days of Tellico .....

I was going through a period where I went from an awesome ARB 24 spline rear back to a standard 10 spline rear, and I could do nothing but snap half shafts. The half-shafts were all used and coming out of "the bucket" but still, once you go 24 you don't go 10 again. At least not very easily.

That's OK. I'm glad to see you having fun with it. The last time I got it that dirty I decided to take the whole darn thing apart to clean it. Then I figured while the engine was out there was no better time to rebuild it, and there were a few bent fins on the radiator so I had it re-cored, and...........well, you know the rest.

Ah, a full blown case of shipfitter's disease. I know the symptoms well.

Though I've never before heard of anyone getting it because their Land Rover got dirty. Deep dirt/grunge is a common cause for shipfitters disease among classic car owners that often go to club events and shows. I just didn't think it would jump the barrier as a causal for Land Rover shipfitter's disease.

Whatever the cause the result is usually a really nice vehicle.

Stuck in the mud in Randolph VT with no shovel, hilift, or other vehicle, hence me being covered in mud. Backed into a hidden 2ft pool of mud made by someone else being stuck previously, had to build an earthen damn behind the truck and dig out the muck around everything, and free the rear axle. Ended up getting pulled out by a friend I sent my wife running out to get. Good sport...lesson learned. Funny doesn't look like that big of a hole in the pictures.

Guess my old noggin needs a new set of points...

Sorry, yes in order for the youtube video to display properly on the forum I did replace "hill" with "Z-Ea1142AM".

In order for me to illustrate the coding example (without it acutally displaying the youtube video) I had to edit the beginning of the code with the "<" and end with ">". These are html coding and the forum uses BBCoding which is "[" and "]".

Hope this makes sense?

Thanks for helping me out TSR.

Hey NepentheSea,
I think the ARB was installed using the big ring washer instead of the thicker ring gear. It was a while ago and I've kinda forgotten.

Having bought the truck with the ARB already installed, I didn't even know such a problem could exist. Eventually one day while driving down the road, the ring gear unceremoniously came off with a bang. That put me back into the 10 spline for a while with a bunch of used half shafts to feed the habit until I finally got sick of swapping them over. Bill at GBR put together a trutrack for me and things have been swell ever since. :thumb-up:

The further we got into the trail the more complete the trucks were...some even having windshields intact and gauges still there.

Real interesting mix of vehicles, graders, track driven with runners all parked as they left them over 60 years ago.

Saddly a similar thing happened to me a few years back, but I was on a Mt bike. (i.e. bicycle) Same setup. ATV around a corner, he stopped I stopped, but his buddy behind him didnt and rear-endded the first atv, which knocked my off and over the side the trail. Ugly messup , Front sprocket into forearm ...blood...etc.. needless to say they were going Very fast, I could have been a Hiker, Dog walker, Horse rider XC skier... probably all with similar results.

I don't own an ATV, but If I ever do...I would hope I wouldn't suddenly come into thinking that all these trails are here for me only, and for me to ruin just because I can.. and incase I don't want to get my ATV wet or muddy (or me) I can run down the forest and blaze a new trail so it too can get rutted and muddy ..... oh yeah and I should leave my PBR and Bud light cans scattered around to mark my trail so I can find my way home after I'm buzzed. Oh then I can get a rhino w/ a two seater and a steering wheel an be allowed to ride places a Jeep or LR is not allowed

While my 88 was undergoing a frame off rebuild, I did a ton of off roading in our series IIA 109. Let me tell you that I completely under estimated the capability of that rig. With balding TSL's at 12 psi it can crawl its way through most anything connecticut trails can throw at it. A while ago I started a facebook group for rovers in CT, and we hit the trails at least once a month, minimum. Even though I'm off at school the group is active, and I recommend anyone who wants to wheel in southeastern CT give it a look.

My favorites....

These were from a trip several years ago when my wife-to-be first moved to Colorado. We ran all 4x4 trails from Golden (Colorado) down to Silverton which took about 3 days worth of driving. We then took the train (coal fired steam train) from Silverton toward Durango and hopped off about mid-way out and hiked up into the Chicago Basin where we were surrounded by several 14,000 ft peaks. Given the fact that we left a couple days after she arrived in Colorado, our summit attempts were turned back by her lack of acclimation (but she still married me!).

Fantastic trip!

HHhhmmm, to me that looks like a perfectly normal Land Rover Predicament - if you are using it as intended! Use it as a learning experience!

i think my thought process at the time was if the vehicle broke down then, it would have been a normal land rover predicament

I'm glad this delightful thread got resurrected. I'd like to see it as a sticky just because it is fun eye candy. I just wish more of the older pictures were still there for us to enjoy. Who all has updated pictures of your truck out wheeling? More new pictures?

These are from a Monument Valley trip last fall.
