Mine has a capillary bulb for my water temp gauge in that location.

yes, you just need the correct size plug for it. rovers north might have it.. if not take the adapter thats in there out and take it to the hardwarestore to match it up.

or you can put the water temp sender in it so you know how hot its getting..

I read somewhere that if you take the adapter out, the sump plug for the oil pan will fit. Anybody know?

is that your fuel line running between the head and the water pump?

Whether you have a capillary tube temp gauge or an electric one, that's where the sender should be installed, so Are you not using any water temp gauge?

i'd consider running your fuel line over the top. you can anchor it to the forward valve cover bolt. it seems it would be subject to a bit of heat running as you have it.
