This is a few pics of the Land Rover my Grandmother just gave me. It has been siting for years and I plan to go thru it and make it as clean as my wallet will allow.

I will post pics on this board when I get home but here is a link to my Clubs web site

That is a very cool Rover - but then I am prejudiced towards the 88" P/U. For obvious reasons.

Id pull up the shag carpet and see if the footwells are rusted. Looks like a pretty clean solid truck already congrats and good luck!

I hate California. That truck would look like that in 2 weeks here in NH.

Anyway, your truck shall be called snow white from this time forward. Granny painted EVERYTHING white. I kind of like it though.

...2 weeks after rolling off the assembly line, that is. I wish my chassis looked like that. I only drove it one winter here and mine looks worse.

The chassis crossmember has not even been "streamlined" by offroad obstacles:thumb-up:.

that's why mine hibernates in the winter. along with my FJ (I know that's a little ridiculous)

I just ordered a brake master cylinder rebuild kit and a complete exhaust from the manifold back.

I will post more pics when I get the parts:D

Rubijon,

What is the purpose of this odd, home-made crossmember shown in the pics below? (The one made of steel channel, not the factory one!)

That's why you need lotsa Waxoyl, from our wonderful hosts - stops rust in its tracks!

I deal with salt air AND salted roads, and my frame has held up beautifully since I got my truck in '91 - thanks to Waxoyl.

What ever you do, don't ask for advise about this truck from the forum you linked too. They think it's a clown car. Obviously it's a clown truck. :p

I love the truck. 88 pickups are way too rare if you ask me. Keep the forum up to date on your progress.

Well today I pulled off the windscreens and I will take them to work to strip them of all the white paint. Every time I go out to work on this thing I find more things I want to tinker with. Looks like I will be ordering more parts tomorrow.

Just be careful you don't go too far down the rabbit hole. Keep yourself on target with a to-do list and try your best not to stray from it.

Don't ask how *we* know. ;)

Rubijon,

is it bolted on? maybe some one cut off the xmbr that was under the tranny to drop instead of pull'n the tranny

It is a homemade xmbr  and it is welded in.

Makes it easier to remove the trannie without removing the engine too?

I had the same exhaust system you have in my 1960 Series II (through the fender). I bought a new manifold for the later style and converted to the later exhaust system, which is what you apparently bought. The only difference was the first pipe - everything else bolted up fine. I converted because I couldn't find the earlier front pipe and the manifold wasn't too expensive. I also never liked that tight 90-degree bend from a flow perspective.

I would like to keep it original so I will try and have a custom one made. If that does not work I will convert it.

Forget about the originality factor, the old manifolds cracked and the heat damper freezes up anyway. You've already got many modern upgrades (alternator), so do the practical thing, and use the exhaust you recieved. Aftermarket manifolds are quite reasonable, and the exhaust hangs much nicer.

Been awhile since I have been able to get out and work on it but I got a little work done today. I pulled the radiator to fix a leak and pulled the driver side front fender to gain access to the steering box and brake and clutch master cylinders. I also need to install a new exhaust manifold for my new exhaust:D
I will post more pics as I go.

Oh, I dunno---That manifold probably had another good 10 or 15 minutes left in it before it really needed changing. ;)

It looks like it warms the intake air until the the temps warm up. That little box with a spring will open/close a baffle that allows the intake air to draw over the hot exhaust when cold.

Tim Smith

So it's a chingus baffle. Got it.
