I recently acquired an 88 with a 2.25 diesel engine #90656157 C. It has a C.A.V. distributer pump #3249F750. I am looking for the timing tool. It is not available from the usual suspects.
Have one I can borrow and have one made at a machine shop?

If it's anything like the DPS pump timing pins on the 2.5 engine, you should be able to make your own easily enough. Let me check into this and I'll get right back to you...

I don't think they are the same. The 2.25 is a device by which you take up the backlash in the drive gear once you set the timing to 15 degrees. Then you set the timing pointer to the mark on the device.
I have seen pictures of both and they look different.

Ahh...You're right. I remember this now. It's one of these:



I remember that there was a post asking about this from a gent in the UK. I think he just ended up timing it using the trial and error method until it ran right and didn't smoke.

My understanding is that these are almost impossible to find unless you make your own. I finally took mine to shop that had one, and they really weren't able to get it much better than I was able to do with trial and error.
