    1949 SI SWB

Its just a feeler but if your really interested and want to deal with shipping it i have a friend in Zimbabwe who is selling one of his Series 1 SWB.

These are some of the pictures i took of it when i was in Zimbabwe this past May.

Looking at the pictures i may be wrong about the year as it looks more like an 88 than an 86.

Either way the guy lives across the street from my mother in law and i would be willing to get his contact info for you if you are interested. I will have nothing to do with the sale other than getting you his contact info.

Shipping it over would be on you.

The gentleman who owns it used it on his game ranch in the eastern part of Zimbabwe and used it as a rover should be used, he also did a ground up resto of it not too long ago from what i remember him telling me.

If i had the coin it would be on its way over already, or it would be in my garage in Harare......

    Nice looking vehicle!
Looking at this, it is either an 86" or 88", a Chassis # would confirm this.
Any idea of $$$$$ for the vehicle?

Someone help me out here. How can you tell for sure it is an 88 and not an 86? The radiator panel looks like an 86, since the 88 rad panel only has one opening. The wiper motor looks like an early 86, the tail lights are early 86 (or 80 for that matter). The dipswitch in the steering wheel center looks like 86 as well.

The extra 2" is sometimes visible in the front fenders, but I can't judge them that well to know.

What is it that makes it look like an 88?

              it's a 1954 86"

it's a '54 86", in my humble, though studied, estimation. The rear taillights pictured (Lucas D Lamp) were replaced by the familiar and coveted pork pie (lucas 518) lights in 1955. The station wagon was first announced in september 1953, with the first production in 1954. Thus, this one must be before 1955 but after September 1953. The engine photos show the siamese bore 2-liter used in 1954. In 1955, the engine would become the spread-bore. The air cleaner pictured on this vehicle has the pre-cleaner of the 1954 2-liter and the carb elbow also of the 1954 (and before) engines. So, it has to be the 1954, assuming engine, lights are original. the 88" was introduced in late 1956.
              1958 Series 1 88"
              1966 Series 2A 88"
