Modified tire size for '99 DII w/16" rims

I have a '99 DII with the OE 255/65R16 size. I was told by Tire Rack that I can change the size to 245/75R16, but as this tire diameter is 30.5 vs. 29.1 for stock, that the speedometer would have to be recalibrated. The only reason I would even consider this is to purchase the BFG All Terrain T/A (load range E), as it is not available in the OE size. My other choice is to purchase either the Yokohama A/T-S or Toyo Open Country A/T in the OE size. If anyone has advice as to which way to go, I'd appreciate it. I'm going to modify the DII for off road (I live in NY, so no difference), with OME heavy duty shocks/springs, brush guard w/winch, upgraded steering rods, and other assorted bits.

Wait until you do the suspension before you get new tires, 245/75-16 will look too small with an OME lift. 265/75-16 is the "standard" size used with that suspension and performs well as well as looking balanced.

Re: the speedometer.

Lots of folks don't worry about it. For example, mine is about 13% off; after four years like this, I know the adjusted speed by heart now.

Thanks for the advice. I'm going with Genuine Land Rover HD springs & shocks for a 1" lift which will still get the Disco in the garage. The largest size I am willing to get would be 245/75/16, as I can get that size in load range E for the extra gear I plan to put on. That should look & perform better than stock w/o rubbing the tire.

Thanks for the load range info. Unfortunately in the 245/75/16 size, load range E is prevalent. There is a load range C tire, but I won't buy it from the company who makes it. So, I'm kinda outa luck here.
