Especially if you are going to mount it in the middle part of the bumper. You best look at your own bumper and make your own decision. A pintle hitch usually indicates you will tow or haul something rather burly, sooner or later, and best be prepared.:thumb-up:

It should have 2 backing plates; one directly under the pintle hitch and one on the other side of the rear crossmember under the nuts of the mounting bolts.

Go here for all the info:

and one on the other side of the rear crossmember under the nuts of the mounting bolts.

Particularly this one as jac04 points out.

I watched someone at the winter romp try to pull another truck out of an icy bath and the pintle came flying out backwards.

Where do you get a backing plate, or do you have to fab one up?

I would just make one since it is very simple and the link I referenced has all the dimensional info you need. If you don't feel like making one, you can source them from lrseries.com. Otherwise, I bet someone like pangolin4x4 could make one up for you.

^^ That's for the civilian chassis. Do you have (or plan to make) the backing plates for the military chassis?

For the MOD chassis, the only part currently avail from Land Rover is the spacer plate # 531447 (no pic. sorry) for $43.80

Just make one- they are stupid simple to make. Steel Plate: 7-1/2 IN LG - 4-1/2 IN WD - 3/8IN THK Use your pintle hook to position the holes- done.

I have the lightweight ones somewhere and you could have them but I don't really remember where I put them. If i find them I'll post them up here.

Do you still have the pintle hitch? I need another one. PM me if you still have it.

Oh I am using the hitch, theplates are the things i don't need.

Just ran across some cheap on Ebay.co.uk:

There are a bunch of the pintle hitches there too. Shipping would suck but some go pretty cheap.
