The valve is very simple and can be rebuilt with a new gasket from www.tntlr.com (http://www.tntlr.com). What's wrong with it?

The military tank selection valve is pretty nice because it not only switches the tank source, but also switches to that tank's sender. You'd have to come up with something more complicated to replace the whole thing.

Maybe just install a fuel pump (with a momentary switch) to transfer the "second" tank's contents into the "first" tank?

Just about every US auto parts store that caters to people who actually work on their cars carry an assortment of brass fittings. Usually 2 & 3 way brass fuel selector valves are included in the selection drawers. New fuel selector valve usually for under $25. They even have an off position that can serve as an anti theft device if left unlabeled.

A fuel tank valve (http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_nkw=fuel+selector+valve&_frs=1&_trksid=p3286.c0.m359) and a toggle switch (http://www.amazon.com/SPDT-Heavy-Duty-Toggle-Switch/dp/B0002KR0QU)- can't get much more simple than that.

You could use an electric fuel tank valve and a DPDT switch to controll both the valve and the sending unit changeover too. (http://www.wildhorses4x4.com/downloads/9720%2011-8-07.pdf)
