    63 IIA 88...

Up for grabs is my 1963 IIA 88” Station Wagon.

The truck is located in Mammoth Lakes CA, Its worth what someone is willing to pay so for the time being I am accepting reasonable offers.

First to clarify the truck is not a restoration, I never had any intentions of doing a full frame up I just wanted an original looking well behaved truck to explore the Sierras and area deserts.

A little history I bought it from a friend’s father that had owned since 1983. At some point the motor was replaced (2.25) and according to the PO it only has 2k miles on it, I have no reason not to believe him but I cant confirm this… The truck was at his cabin, and he only used it occasionally in the summer to tow a small dingy to the lake 1 mile away.

Here is a short list of the work done…I have picks for most steps/stages. Too many details to mention but given this audience they will be apparent. The truck does run and drive well, its tuned to an altitude of 8000’ so I guarantee wherever it goes next the truck will need to be re-tuned.

Frame – No rust to talk about, truck is from the high desert, still had original paint on most of it. I cleaned then covered with multiple coats of primer and black enamel paint. The rear driver side section of the cross member is slightly bent, hardly noticeable.

Bulkhead and breakfast - were soda and sand blasted (sand was needed to get all the paint off) epoxy coated, and painted. Both pieces were damn near perfect (I have photos). There only 3-4 pin holes on the bulkhead floors.

Exterior - I didn’t go crazy on the body, the rear quarters have dents, the paint hides them well. Most panels are fairly straight but there are a few random small dents…I replaced a few panels. The Sunsheet is a little rough. The paint job is a complete color change. PPG Epoxy Primer and PPG Acrylic Enamel Paint. I have 1.5 qts extra. I would give the paint about a 7 it had some dust and orange peel. It looks great from a few feet but is not prefect…IMO it’s going to look awesome when it fades. Everything was painted off the truck. I did not however paint in the wheel wells, or under the bed. All trim, windshield frame and about 100 other parts were galvanized, in SF @ Pacific Galvanizing. Rivets are correct style from big flats. All new hinge pins, mirrors,

Electrical – all works pos ground, new harness tip to tail from British Pacific using all new bullet connectors, new pigtails, new dip switch. Does not have original lamps, using the aftermarket defender plastic ones, but they are new. Optima redtop battery.

Engine & Trans – Engine painted old ford blue, new hoses, belts, motor mounts, breathers, tune up items. Most gaskets replaced. No major leaks. A few weeps though but not on main seals. Rochester carb w/ k&n, fuel pump & filter.

Tires – New, came with truck Radial Rovers 7.5x16 tube style. Not my choice.
    2 spares on rivet rims. Non-tube 235-85-16 tires Bridgestone’s

Brakes – all new rubber lines 2 hard lines replaced, new MC, Have a full set on Mintex pads uninstalled and 4 wheel cyl rebuild kits. Brakes are solid.

Clutch - Rebuild clutch master and slave…working great.

Interior - Front and rear floor mats, Seats - deluxe style, Seat belts are inertia style with vintage look chrome buckles, using Defender brackets. Headliner is the original, recovered in headliner felt. New pedal pads & lever boots. Front and rear window tracks have been replaced.

Almost all hardware was replaced with new nuts, bolt, and screws, whatever…

    Other new parts
    • Bumper
    • All door seals…glue on style
    • All body to side, side to top, windscreen, & vent seals
    • Alpine seals
    • New pro-comp shocks
    • New gas tank
    • New exhaust

    Extras of some interest
    • All 4 seats for the rear, most need to be recovered, brackets were galvanized
    • Tow bar with a bent up old bumper
    • High Lift Jack
    • Under middle seat box (needs “adjustment” and paint)
    • Most interior panels many still with elephant hide still on them, only missing all LH door, RH lower door…I would recover them though
    • Original deep sills in poor condition
    • Rear hitch

Items I didn’t get to do but planned to…
    • Parabolics
    • Front end rehab, swivels, tie rods. Rear hub seal (Have all these)
    • The PO cut the capillary tube for the temp gauge; I bought another but didn’t work either. The original LR one need to be sent to Nisonger

What a great looking vehicle! Good luck with the sale. Make sure you get what it's worth.

There were a few people out there looking for a nice Series vehicle, you may want to drop them a line (if they are willing to have the vehicle shipped):
