rebuild Oil pump 2.25 Ser III

New series oil pump is $500 plus.. yikes.. that could be 25% of my engine rebuild cost

Has onyone rebuilt their Oil pump for a 2.25 Ser III petrol? Mine is a 1973 model. It's unclear to me if the parts are avail or if the parts in the RN catalog are for a newer model pump.

    If Yes.. was it difficult.

Any Proline/aftermarket options or is Genuine the only worthy investment?

    Thanks.. Talbot

You can get a proline one for in the low 200.00 range. I have never had any success with rebuilding. If you buy all the parts needed to rebuild the original pump, you are only a few dollars away from having a new aftermarket(proline) one.

    BTW-clear out your PM box.

      Pump Rebuild.

you may be able to check the pump first. it could be fine.

Check the axial clearance first. a majority of the leakage occurs past the faces of the gears. i would block the top of the pump to make sure it is free of any raised material, so the cover fits over it tightly. a slight burr can raise the cover, increasing the axial clearance of the pump. if you dont have a granite block, use a glass surface to block the face of the pump flat.

also check the shaft bore. look for signs of wear on one side of the bore.

if you have pics, i might be of more help.
