Can anyone tell me about this starter from these pics?

Here is the starter taken apart:

Is it worn, destroyed? If so, can it be fixed easily?

    Is it normal?

    Need more pics?

As always, I appreciate all of your help.

It looks like new brushes, a thorough cleaning with electric contact cleaner, and fresh grease [lightly] should do the trick. RN offers rebuild kits for Series Rover starters.

      Jeff,

      Thank you for you input.

You say, "rebuild kit"? Do you refer to this below?

I ask because this only supplies the brushes. I wondered if you meant that there was a kit that had brushes and other things.

      Thanks,
      Gary

The brushes have been arcing considerably, and more than normal. If it were me, I would have an electrical shop dress the armature and they will undercut the mica insulation. You should be good to go then.
