View Full Version : Frozed transfer case fill plug

Fill plug is frozen on my 4.0 96 and it has a slow drip leak......never filled her since i got the car what to do and whare is it on the transfer case...had someone else discover the frozen plug

What to do??? slow leak and i cant get it out. Had someone else discover this whare is the fill plug couldnt find it???

The fill/level plug is on the RH side of the rear of the transfer box.
When viewed from underneath, it is on the LH side of the hand brake drum.
The drain plug is the lower plug, the level fill plug is the upper one.

Hope this helps.
The torque setting for fastening both is 22 ft. lbs.

Thanks, i put a breaker bar on it with a wratchet and i coulnt get it to break free have you had this experiance in the past.. Other than spraying it with poil what should i do.

Soak it with some PB blaster and when you put it back together make sure you use Hylomar or plumbers tape so that the 2 dissimilar metals are not in contact with each other.

great, thanks will do. By plumbers tape dp you mean teflon?? And if i cant break it loos should i put some heat to it i would rather not do that...
