Has anyone ever had an oil pump fail in their 2.25? (Petrol)

Any one replaced or rebuilt one due to wear even though they were not rebuilding their engine?

Interested in the responses.
Thanks

I have heard of people planing (sanding) down the bodies of their oil pumps to restore the endplay tolerences of the pump gear-rotors.

I had a NOS one for my engine rebuild. My engine guy told me the original one would shoot oil from here to Iraq and was perfect. He told me to sell the new one and dont worry about the original one that had 70,000 miles on it.

I have nearly 400,000 on my Rovers North rebuilt engine and it has the same oil pump. The oil pressure gauge shows the same pressure range from when the engine was new, so I'm assuming that mine remains fine.

I've not heard of the part being a weak link of any sort, but I defer to the better mechanics.

The answer is largely co-dependent on the overall maintenance of the engine.
