I'm Looking for pics of Tuffy console between the two front seats (series trucks) ... Does it fill the void pretty well? I like the OE bench seat look, but will never use the middle seats? I think the Tuffy cubby woul dmake more sense? Opinions? Talbot

Does this help? I just finished mounting mine, don't have pictures of it with the seat bases installed, but can do that tomorrow if you wish. I also diverged from the mounting instructions a bit to make it work better with mine. I thought it was going to be too tall, but once in, it's about the perfect height for my right arm to rest on. Fills the space between the seats completely. I did have to modify my overdrive shifter to use the cupholder. (put a dogleg bend in the shaft)

I don't have a pic but the tuffy is a perfect fit. There is about enough space between the seat and box to put a map book or something like that.

It increases your storage space by quite a bit and gives you something to rest on. I love mine and wouldn't trade it. It's a great upgrade/addition.

I mounted mine to the tunnel cover so I can easily pull the whole unit out and check trans/od levels.

Hey i like this thread. I am looking for some spare change for the toll that is coming up. But all I found was a couple dried up french fries.

:)

Probably, if you can get all the sand, MAR dirt and carpet fuzz off them. I just left em down there. :)

Seriously, love the tuffy boxes and look for them on ebay from time to time.
Have found two used ones in good shape for around $180.

Definitely get the one with the radio compartment. I like Galen's approach of being able to remove it, but in my 'hood I decided it was better to bolt it down. besides, there are wires coming through it and I don't have an overdrive. But that's just me.

Been waiting to put one in the 90...stereo at the moment is giving me fits in its present installation. So perhaps it's a good time to do it.

Trouble is that my speakers are in the center cubby and I don't want to cut holes in my tuffy. So where to put the speakers is a question.

.. So where to put the speakers is a question.

i posted a pic of my speaker placement once but one of you guys made fun of it and made me cry. they're round and hanging in a cargo net strung from the hoop set. the meanie said it looked like breasties in a fishnet brazier. they do but it works and i can almost hear 'em over the rover rattling, engine whinning and wind whistling

My middle panel has the lock hinge on it so if I really needed to I could put a padlock on it.

My tuffy was in the truck when I bought it. I'm too cheap to buy, made the one in my last truck

I like fries. :thumb-up:

I originally attached my tuffy to the center inspection panel but keep looking at it and thinking that it is a heavy bit of steel and when I roll over I have to think that I don't want to be sharing the cab with it. After 10s of thousands of miles with it that way I am finally gettign round to mounting it more securely with 4 screws to the seat mounts.

My inspection panel has a lip at the back and the hinge in the front. It can't let loose in a roll over. When I bought the truck it was just sitting in there and that was not a good solution.

Mine has that lip too. It is thin aluminium and it will bend and let the cubby lose in a roll. Don't ask how I learned that one.

Here's a couple of pics of what mine looks like now. The first pic is of the inspection panel, I removed the hasp from the front of the panel (it interfered with the console sitting flat) and then made a rear mount out of 1" square tubing, the front is 1/4" bar stock. I drilled and tapped them so I could bolt them to the panel from underneath, then drilled and tapped 3 more holes in the top to line up with the holes in the console. I screwed the panel down to the seat box, but they are underneath the console when installed so the console has to be removed before the panel can be taken off. I ran the wires underneath the Rover to the center where the radio cutout is. Second pic is the console in place, still have to make a overdrive boot. (didn't like the Bronco transfer boot that the PO had on it.)

Here's my custom cubby;

I wanted more clear room at the front and didn't need to mount a radio.

Thanks to all for the picsLooking more at the RN site and Specs (LxWxH), the one I have really isnt the one for the Series LR. .. the 12" wide one looks to fit really well...

I will sell it in order to get the correct one..

I have a similar one in my early bronco.. It holds a ton of stuff (junk). I can't imagine having even more room?? I call it the abyss

has anybody ever thought of a speaker console?

meaning head unti, speakers and possibly amp all in one?

I have seen such things in various cats..

That must be a pretty extreme surgery to fit all that into a cat! do you remove more than just it's testes?

- To be able to get to the overdrive and not have it slide around I put a hinge (a piece of the SS ones left over from when I replaced them on my old Carawagon's roof) on the back - attached it to the seatbelt mounts in the back and with a retainer strap from the seat in the front.

Cool 3rd pic threw me off. you must have a 109.. Is there no bulkhead behind the front seats?

I have the Tuffy box and it is a perfect fit. I attached it to the center cover with wing nuts and studs for easy removal. At first it rattled a bit so I sandwiched a sheet of foam rubber between it and the center cover. That stopped the rattle and also helped to quiet some road noise. I also have a cup holder on the back for the rear passengers to use.

Got my tuffy 17-01 in the mail today.. That thing is massive.. Lot of storage. I thought the one in my bronco was large, but this is incredible..

Here is a better one on my Tuffy... installed right, these are like fort knox, and you're right - quite roomy actually...

fyi - in case someone is wondering, behind the "stealth black grill" under the dash (on the firewall) I have an ultra-thin sub-woofer (pic2)...

Am I the only one who doesn't see any photos here? Do I have a forum setting incorrect?

I am looking for an installed pic, if anyone has anything to share.

i got mine used on ebay for 100 bucks. fit perfectly between
i ran 3 bolts up through the seat box and through the bottom of the tuffy. put some fender washers on top and wing nuts.one on the front center and two in the back corners. it doesnt budge but i can undo the wing nuts and have it off im about 30 seconds to tend to my overdrive. i turned the overdrive shifter so it is as far to the left as possable and moved over the cup holder a couple of inches everything works perfectly.
i love it

I have the centre box from Smittybuilt. I had the Tuffy box on my last rover and it was great, if pricey. The Smittybuilt is just as good but a little long with the cup holders.
I also have a Tuffy centre ROOF console. It holds my cb and has another compartment. You may wish to look into that as well. The install was easy , 2 bolts in the front and the dome light holder is the rear attachment. When the rain ever stops I will send along some pics.
Cheers , Kris:p
