Im trying to decide what color to paint my 109, its a faded tan now and i was going to go for a desert tan like military Humves but the more i think about it i think something different would be cool. I want a flat color because i dont ever want to deal with scratches and its easy to touch up. Gray, olive drab, heck even flat black might be cool. Anyone have a unique paint job with pictures or some other ideas they would like to share?

I just posted this on the "show us your series" forum... wondering what colors they are officially... I especially like the light tan, and am hoping to find an official name for the color / distributor to purchase...

You could always go with the animal-based paint job. You know, zebra stripes, giraffe spots, tiger stripes, leopard spots, etc...

Jeep (some special edition) used to (maybe still) do a flat kind of grey-green umber color I always liked. Not too military-y, but tough and off-road-ready looking. Similar to this (at least on my screen):

My poppy red 74 has faded to the typical orangeish and in most places is pretty much flat. Doesn't look bad.
I wonder how a flat warm sunset or rust orange would look flat? Definitely different.

This might be too obvious, but what about Nantucket red?
Paint your sled the correct poppy red and let the sun do the rest. Will look like a pair of your well-worn shorts in no time. And scratches just add to the effect.

haven't seen him on this board for a while, or maybe he just change his name and refrains from posting pic of his 88, but do you folks remember the pink barbie series?

Do the Razzle Dazzle scheme:

In all seriousness...
I have always dug the British desert camouflage scheme...

Stealing this idea from scott, he wanted to do this to a Triumph Spitfire at one time. Paint using the RAF camo scheme like this.....

I think I'd do the sills and frame/bumpers in the blue and then either of the camo patterns on everyting else. Guess I'd go with the desert scheme since I live in the desert. And of course place the circular logo on the doors.

Likely military paint, Lusterless Desert Sand 686 (Fed Standard 33446) by Gillespie coatings. Cheap and available from Rapco. Jack painted his lightweight with it and I will be painting my Series III on Thursday with it too but using a hardener so mine will be a touch less flat in it's finish.

Thanks, I was thinking the same, yet the color the truck in the pics appears a bit lighter than Jac04's ...here is the sample of Jac's from their site :

...but then again, I often end up wearing 2 different colored socks to work... so could be me too.

The site has a terrible color swatch, just look at jac04's build thread for a better look.

The Berlin, "Urban" camo paint scheme has always been my favorite. Glad there's someone else...

What is even more fearsome then the "pink" color is that my daughter thought it was an outstanding color for my 109.....I am feeling queezy:(

As long as you can add a few machine guns and keep the color matte and not glossy I don't see a problem.

I've occasionally had the "Mary Kay pink" yearning but have been saved by the name of my truck, "The Green Rover". So it has stayed British racing green. But I have compromised by painting the Salisbury pink. A personal tradition started with my first car when I was 17. Al my cars except for the VWs have had pink rear ends. Sometimes with a white daisy decal as well.
Back in '78 when I had both a red 88 and a green 109, if I had called them the 88 and the 109 instead of the red rover and the green rover, there is a very good possibility that my Dormobile would have been painted pink years back.

Very nice Kevin,
What are you using for sprayer ? have you painted before... just curious if if took a little practice first to get a smooth consistent application. I am imagining me doing this and resulting in running, inconsistencies etc...
this is the desert sand from Rapco then ? will be great seeing that come together...

Not sure of the brand but just an ordinary HVLP gun. This is the paint from Rapco with hardener added 16:1 and then reduced with xylene by 15%. This was my first experience painting a vehicle and it was intimidating at first but I quickly had the hang of it. Of course it was very helpful to be doing it with a friend who had painted before to help set up the gun. I only had one screw up with a door top that had a nice run and will need a reshoot but I will be painting the rear tub later and will do it then.

Kevin,
Very awesome! I love that color and even though ive had some good ideas on this thread I still cant steer away from the desert tan. It will be a beach cruiser so it will look nice and matches the sand ill be on very well. I think im going to do satin black wheels but I have 2 sets so I think ill do one black and one tan just for fun. Cant wait to see your truck together! Im having to put mine on hold for about 6 months while I go back home for the summer/fall :(
