I have a pretty substantial radiator fluid leak coming from under the water pump assembly. The fluid appears to be leaking from hole in the bottom side of the housing for the spindle and bearing for the radiator fan (opposite the set screw in the top of the housing). The leak stops when the engine is shut off and the coolant cools down.

Any ideas? Am I missing a plug for this hole?

New or otherwise, if it leaks here, its no good. This hole is designed to let out any small bit of A/F that accumulates past the impeller seal. It lets is weep out so as not to contaminate the bearing. It probably leaks more once cooled as a contracted and cold assembly and seal is not as effective at sealing in this condition. That's usually how to tell a water pump is wearing out is by a slight trickle from this hole once the engine cools.

Either way, not a good sign. Sorry. :(

Water pump is shot. Rebuild or replace.

Just took another look, it is definitely coming out of the weep hole. So I will replace the water pump, could be worse I guess.

Thanks for the advice!!
