So i picked up this Series IIA 109 last fall for a relatively low price knowing it needed a little attention. My plan was to properly rewire it, clean up the interior, replace the exhaust and then sell it as I have several other rover projects. Of course as I have been getting into this machine I keep finding shoddy repairs by the last person who supposedly "restored" it...I even have a box full of receipts to the tune of thousands of dollars for said repairs. I spent last weekend changing out the exhaust. Since I had to spend a considerable amount of time crawling around on my back under the truck I realized the frame is uglier then I originally thought. Well a frame swap was more then I was intending but I am having a hard time walking away from it. problem being that if I am going to rewire the truck, and do this other work that a new frame would just be a good thing....of course there is part of me that really wants a 109 too.

So....drama aside...my 109 was originally a 2.6 litre 6 cylinder engine that has been replace with a 4 cylinder and might be replace with something else again. I see that there are different frame numbers listed for the 2.6 and 2.25 litre 109 chassis. Do I need a 2.6 chassis to do a swap or will the 2.25 suffice and what is the difference?

Well, the engine mounts are in a different location at least. I had to change the mount locations when I put the 2.5 in my former 2.6.

Are the 2.6 mounts farther forwards then the 2.25 mounts?

Well, since my engine happens to be out, I snapped a pic of the engine mount locations. The red lines are where the old 2.6 mounts were. You can see the mounts for the 2.5 diesel, which should be pretty close to the 2.25 mount locations, since the block is very similar. Somebody else can confirm this.

ok, thanks for the photos. That certainly makes sense that the longer engine would have motor mounts farther forward on the chassis. So if I were to order a chassis I'd go with the 2.25 unit unless I were going to put in a V8 or something...then the 6 cylinder chassis might be easier to work with.
