So i picked up this Series IIA 109 last fall for a relatively low price knowing it needed a little attention. My plan was to properly rewire it, clean up the interior, replace the exhaust and then sell it as I have several other rover projects. Of course as I have been getting into this machine I keep finding shoddy repairs by the last person who supposedly "restored" it...I even have a box full of receipts to the tune of thousands of dollars for said repairs. I spent last weekend changing out the exhaust. Since I had to spend a considerable amount of time crawling around on my back under the truck I realized the frame is uglier then I originally thought. Well a frame swap was more then I was intending but I am having a hard time walking away from it. problem being that if I am going to rewire the truck, and do this other work that a new frame would just be a good thing....of course there is part of me that really wants a 109 too.
So....drama aside...my 109 was originally a 2.6 litre 6 cylinder engine that has been replace with a 4 cylinder and might be replace with something else again. I see that there are different frame numbers listed for the 2.6 and 2.25 litre 109 chassis. Do I need a 2.6 chassis to do a swap or will the 2.25 suffice and what is the difference?
